The Random Tarot Card Generator draws one card from a full 78-card deck each time you press the button. You get the card's image, its name, a list of upright keywords, a list of reversed keywords and a paragraph on what the card means. That's the whole tool: no spreads, no sign-up, and no interpretation beyond what's on the card.
It works as a card-of-the-day draw, a quick yes-or-no pull, or a way to learn the deck one card at a time.
What's in the deck
All 78 cards of a standard tarot deck, with artwork in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition:
- 22 Major Arcana, from The Fool (0) through The Magician, The High Priestess, The Lovers, Death, The Tower and The Star to The World (21).
- 56 Minor Arcana in four suits of 14: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles, each running Ace to Ten plus Page, Knight, Queen and King.
Every card draws with equal probability, so you will see a Major Arcana card a little under a third of the time (22 of 78) and a Minor card the rest. There is no option to draw only from the Major Arcana; if that's what you want, keep drawing until one appears, or use the Major cards' numbers with a random number tool.
What each draw shows
- Card image at 384 by 537 pixels, with a sharper version on high-resolution screens.
- Upright keywords: a list of 5 to 13 short phrases, for example The Fool's "New beginnings", "Take a leap of faith", "Free spirit".
- Reversed keywords: the shadow side of the same card, such as "Reckless", "Gullible", "Bad decisions".
- Meaning: a paragraph describing the card's imagery and what it usually points to.
About reversals
Many people search for a random tarot card generator with reversals. This tool always shows the card upright but prints both the upright and reversed keyword lists, so you can read either. If you want the orientation decided for you, flip a coin after drawing, or use the Random Playing Card Generator and treat red as upright and black as reversed. Readers disagree on whether reversals add anything; plenty of professional readers work upright-only, so you're not doing it wrong if you ignore the reversed list.
Simple ways to use a single card
- Card of the day. Draw once in the morning, read the meaning, and notice where it shows up. This is the most common way people learn the deck.
- Yes, no or maybe. Ask a closed question and read the card's tone: The Sun, The Star and the Ace of Cups lean yes; The Tower, the Ten of Swords and the Five of Pentacles lean no; The Moon, The Hanged Man and the Two of Swords are a "not yet".
- Three-card spread by hand. Draw three times and assign past, present and future (or situation, obstacle, advice) in order. Since the deck reshuffles between draws, you might get the same card twice; just draw again.
- Writing and journaling prompts. The Minor Arcana cards are small scenes (a figure walking away from cups, a man asleep with swords over his head) that work well as story or reflection starters.
- Learning practice. Draw a card, say the meaning from memory, then check yourself against the keywords.

Within a suit, Aces are beginnings, the numbered cards trace a progression, and the court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King) often stand for people or for stages of maturity in that suit's area. The Major Arcana cards are bigger themes that tend to outrank whatever surrounds them in a spread.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the generator include reversed cards?
It always shows the card upright, but every draw lists both the upright and the reversed keywords. To decide the orientation randomly, flip a coin after drawing.
- Can I draw only Major Arcana cards?
Not with a filter. All 78 cards are in one pool, so a Major Arcana card comes up about 28 percent of the time. Keep drawing until you get one, or pick a number from 0 to 21 with a random number generator and look up that card.
- Can I do a three-card spread?
Draw three times and assign the positions yourself, for example past, present and future. The deck reshuffles before each draw, so a repeated card is possible; draw again if that happens.
- Is a random tarot card draw as valid as a physical deck?
The shuffle is a random shuffle of all 78 cards, which is at least as unbiased as a hand shuffle. Whether any tarot draw is meaningful is up to you; the tool gives you the card and its traditional meanings, nothing more.
- Which deck is the artwork from?
The card images follow the Rider-Waite-Smith style, the deck most tarot books and courses use, so the imagery matches the descriptions you will find elsewhere.
