The Reddit Name Generator builds up to 20 username ideas from a name or word you give it, a style you pick, and optionally a favorite number and a length range. Reddit usernames are permanent once you register, so this is worth ten minutes of thought. Every result has a copy button and a link that opens reddit.com/user/thatname so you can see whether someone already has it.
How it works
Three steps, two of them optional.
- Enter your name. Anything works as the seed: a first name, a nickname, an interest ("sourdough"), or a couple of words. Most redditors don't use their real names, so pick the word you want the handle to be about.
- Select a vibe. Twelve styles: all, professional, nature-inspired, artistic, fantasy, catchy, sporty, cute, tech-inspired, sci-fi, funny and gamer. Reddit's culture rewards funny and gamer-style names in most subreddits, while professional works better if you plan to post in career or industry communities under your own name.
- Optional settings. A favorite number that the generator will fold into some results, and a length slider from 1 to 32 characters.

Reddit's username rules
Reddit is stricter than most platforms, and the generator does not enforce these rules for you, so check each result against them.

What makes a Reddit name work
Reddit is text-first, so your username appears next to every comment in plain type, often in a wall of other names. Names that hold up there share a few traits.
- Readable at a glance. Two words joined by an underscore or CapitalLetters (Sourdough_Sam, QuietCartographer) beat a run of lowercase letters and digits.
- Not tied to an age or a year. A "2009" suffix looks fine now and odd in ten years, and the name can't be changed.
- Nothing you would mind a coworker seeing. Comment history is public and searchable. The funny vibe is fine; the name just shouldn't be the joke you regret.
- Not your full real name unless you want it that way. Reddit's default is pseudonymous, and a real name attached to a decade of comments is hard to undo.

- Can I change my Reddit username later?
No. Reddit usernames are permanent once you register them. Only accounts that were assigned an automatic name get one opportunity to change it, so choose carefully before signing up.
- Does the generator check if a Reddit name is taken?
Not automatically. Each result has a Reddit icon that opens reddit.com/user/ followed by the name. If that page says the user doesn't exist, the name is available unless it belonged to a deleted account.
- Why do some results have more than 20 characters?
The length slider defaults to 1–32. Reddit's maximum is 20, so drag the upper handle to 20 before generating.
- Are hyphens allowed in Reddit usernames?
Yes. Letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens are all valid. Periods are not, so remove any period the generator adds.
