Church Names Generator
Get 1 to 10 random church names per click, drawn from 542 traditional and modern names for churches, chapels and ministries. The Church Names Generator hands you between one and ten church names per click, pulled at random from a list of 542. Roughly the first third of the list is traditional: saints, feasts and doctrines in the "Saint Michael's Church" and "Holy Trinity Parish" mold. The rest leans modern, with the two- and three-word names you see on nondenominational plants and campus ministries, like "Resilient Hearts Church" or "Believers Unite Church". It's a brainstorming list for church planters, ministry leads and writers who need a plausible congregation name for a story.
How it works
Type a number from 1 to 10, press the button, and that many names appear as cards. The tool shuffles the whole list and takes the first N, so you won't see a duplicate within a single batch. There is no denomination or style filter; the traditional and modern names are mixed together, and you scan the batch for the ones that fit. Ten at a time is enough to see the range, and pressing again gives you a fresh set.
What kinds of names are in the list
We grouped the 542 entries loosely while building the list, and these are the patterns you'll notice:
- Saint names – "Saint Cecilia's Church", "Saint Thomas the Apostle Church", "Saint Patrick's Cathedral". These follow Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox custom, where a parish takes the name of its patron.
- Doctrinal and Marian names – "Immaculate Conception Church", "Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church", "Holy Redeemer Church", "Christ the King Church".
- Grace, life and hope names – "Grace" alone appears in more than forty entries, which mirrors the real world, where Grace Community Church is one of the most common church names in the United States.
- Modern community names – "Engage Rising Church", "Guiding Stars Church", "Dreamers' Empowerment". These are the type that skip the saint entirely and lead with a verb or a value.
- Building and body words – the list uses Church most often, with Cathedral, Fellowship, Community, Chapel, Parish, Ministry and Assembly as the other suffixes.
Who uses it
- Church planters shortlisting names before checking domain and social handle availability. The modern names in the list are short enough to work as a URL.
- Ministry and small-group leaders who need a name for a youth ministry, a recovery group or a food-pantry outreach. Swap "Church" for "Ministry" on any result and it usually still reads well.
- Fiction writers and game masters who want a believable church for a town in a novel or a tabletop setting. The Newspaper Name Generator and Farm Name Generator cover the other institutions a small town needs.
- Designers and developers filling placeholder text in a directory, a map mock-up or a church-management app demo.
How real churches get their names
A few conventions are worth knowing before you settle on anything. Catholic, Orthodox and many Anglican parishes are dedicated to a saint, a title of Mary or a mystery of the faith, and the dedication is often chosen to match the feast day nearest the founding. Protestant traditions historically named churches after their street, neighborhood or founder ("First Baptist Church of Springfield"), which is why so many older American churches are "First" something. From the 1990s on, new nondenominational churches dropped both patterns in favor of a single evocative word plus "Church" (Elevation, Hillsong, Mosaic), and that's the style the modern half of this list imitates. If you're naming a real congregation, check that the name isn't already in use in your denomination's directory and that the matching domain is free; many "Grace" and "New Life" names are taken in most cities.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I use these names for a ministry rather than a church?
Yes. Around nine entries already end in Ministry, and most of the modern names work with the suffix swapped, so "Resilient Hearts Church" becomes "Resilient Hearts Ministry" without losing anything.
- Does the generator make up new names each time?
No. It draws from a fixed list of 542 names, so it can't invent one that isn't there. It's a shortlist tool rather than an AI writer.
- Are the generated names trademarked or in use?
We haven't checked each one against church directories or trademark registers, and common patterns such as Grace Community Church are in use in many places. Search your denomination's directory and your state's business registry before adopting a name.
- Why are some names Catholic-style and others modern?
The list deliberately mixes traditional saint and parish names with contemporary community-style names, and there is no filter to separate them. Generate ten at a time and you'll usually get a few of each.
