Date Night Movie Generator
Press once for a random romance movie filtered by streaming service, year and minimum IMDb rating, with poster, synopsis, where to stream and trailer. The Date Night Movie Generator picks one romance film that matches your filters and shows a full card: poster, title and year, IMDb rating with vote count, a plot summary, genres, where it's streaming, a trailer link and a row of similar titles. It's a movie picker for couples who've spent twenty minutes scrolling and still haven't pressed play.
Filters you can set
- Streaming provider: leave it on All, or pick one or more of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock, Tubi TV, Vudu, fuboTV and Crunchyroll. Choosing two means "available on either."
- Year range: a two-handle slider from 1900 to 2025. Narrow it to 2015–2025 for recent releases or 1980–1999 for a nostalgia night.
- Minimum IMDb rating: a slider from 1 to 10 in 0.1 steps, set to 5 by default. Push it to 7 or higher if you only want well-reviewed films; the pool shrinks fast above 8.
The genre is fixed to romance on this page, which is what makes it a date night picker rather than the general Random Movie Generator, where you choose genres yourself. Press Generate Movie and one title appears; press again for another. If your filters are too tight (a 9+ rating on Peacock from the 1950s, say), you'll get a message saying nothing matched, and you should loosen one of them.
What the movie card shows
Results come from our movie database, which is refreshed with current streaming availability. Each card includes the poster, title and release year, IMDb score and number of votes, a short synopsis, genre tags (romance plus whatever else applies, such as comedy or drama), provider logos for where it's streaming, a link to the trailer on YouTube, and a strip of recommended titles you can click to jump to that film instead. Availability is US-focused; if you're outside the US, treat the provider logos as a hint rather than a promise.
Making it work as a couple
- Best-of-three: generate three movies, each person vetoes one, and the survivor plays. It ends debates faster than open-ended browsing.
- Alternate the rating bar: one night set the minimum to 7.5 for something acclaimed, the next night drop it to 5 and let a guilty-pleasure rom-com through.
- Pick a decade: set the year range to the decade one of you grew up in and watch what the other person missed.
- Use the recommendations row: if the result is close but not quite, the similar-titles strip usually has the one you actually want.
- Filter to what you pay for: select only your subscriptions so every result is playable tonight rather than a rental.
Other pickers for other nights
When romance isn't the mood, the Comedy Movie Generator and Random Horror Movie Generator use the same filters with a different genre lock, the Random Disney Movie Generator covers family nights, and the Random Netflix Movie Generator is pre-filtered to one service. They're all listed under all movie, TV & music generators.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the date night movie picker choose a film?
It queries our movie database for romance titles that match your streaming providers, year range and minimum IMDb rating, then returns one at random. Every press is a new random pick from the same filtered pool.
- Can I change the genre from romance to something else?
Not on this page; romance is built in. For other genres use the Random Movie Generator, which has a genre selector, or one of the genre-specific pickers linked above.
- Why did it say no movies were found?
The filters were too narrow. A high minimum rating combined with a single provider and a short year range can leave zero matches. Lower the rating, widen the years or add another provider and try again.
- Is the streaming information accurate for my country?
Provider data is based on US catalogs. Titles come and go, and availability differs by region, so check the service before you settle in.
- Does it show where to watch and a trailer?
Yes. The card shows logos for the services currently streaming the film and a link to its trailer on YouTube, plus a row of similar movies you can click to switch to.
