Destiny Clan Name Generator
Get 1 to 10 Destiny 2 clan names, from serious Guardian names to puns on the Vex, Hive, Cabal and Xur.The Destiny Clan Name Generator gives you between one and ten clan names per press from a list written for Destiny 2 players. About half are straight-faced names a raid team could wear (Iron Rising, Guardians Mobilized, Corps of Conquerors, Legion of Purpose, Radiant Stars). The other half are jokes built on the game's enemies and vendors: Hive and Seek, Vexstreet Boys, Better Call Ghaul, Ketch These Hands, The Fast and the Xurious, Kinderguardians. If you are setting up a clan on Bungie.net and the name field is staring back at you, this is a quick way to get options.
How it works
One field: the number of names, 1 to 10, starting at 5. Press the button and the names appear as text cards. The list is shuffled on each press and the top slice is shown. The underlying list has 184 distinct names, but several appear in it more than once, so a batch of ten can occasionally show the same name twice. There is no serious-versus-funny toggle; you get a mix and pick from it.
Where the jokes come from
Most of the funny names only land if you know the game, so here is the key. The Vex are the time-traveling robots on Nessus and Mercury (Vex on the Beach, Vexual Healing, Vexually Confuzed). The Hive are the chitinous undead from the Moon and the Dreadnaught (Hive and Seek, 2 Hive Crew, High Horse Hives, Thralls Deep, Crotas Crotch). The Cabal are the armored space-rhinos led by Ghaul in the Red War (Cabals to the Wall, Kick Them in the Cabals, Going Cabals Deep, Better Call Ghaul). The Fallen fly Ketches (Ketch These Hands). Xur sells exotics on weekends (The Fast and the Xurious, Buy Xurious). Nessus, Mercury, Osiris, Acrius, SUROS, Glimmer, Coldheart, Tripmine, paracausal and the Dreaming City all get a name too. New Light players are Kinderguardians. A raid team that fails a lot is a Struggle Bus, and "Shut Up and Wipe" is what someone says right before it happens.
The serious names lean on Destiny's house vocabulary: Guardians, Titans, Warlocks, Hunters, Light and Darkness, Iron (as in Iron Banner), the Vanguard, Solar and Arc energy, time rifts and the Traveler. They read as generic enough to survive a season change, which the meme names will not.
Picking a name that will still work in a year
- Bungie caps clan names at a short length and filters some words, so check the name in the clan creation screen before you announce it to friends.
- Names tied to a single vendor or season (Ghaul, the Red War) date quickly. Names tied to a race (Vex, Hive, Cabal, Fallen) hold up because the races never go away.
- Clan names are not unique in Destiny 2, but clan tags are shorter and more visible; generate a batch and see which names shrink to a good four-letter tag.
- Run the batch past the whole fireteam. A name only one person finds funny becomes unfunny by the third raid.
If your group is not a Destiny clan specifically, the Gang Name Generator and Mercenary Company Name Generator cover other kinds of squads, and the DJ Name Generator and Farm Name Generator are there for the friend who insists on naming everything. See all name generators for the complete list.
Frequently asked questions
- Are these Destiny 2 clan names or Destiny 1?
They work for either. The references (Vex, Hive, Cabal, Xur, Iron Banner) exist in both games, though a few names mention Destiny 2 content like Ghaul, Nessus and the Dreaming City.
- Can I choose only funny names?
No. There is no style filter. Generate ten at a time and you will usually get a few of each kind.
- Does the generator check whether a name is taken?
No. It only draws from its own list. Destiny 2 allows duplicate clan names anyway, so the check that matters is whether the name fits Bungie's length and word filters.
- How many names does it know?
184 distinct names. Because some are listed more than once, the same name can show up twice in one batch; press again if that happens.
