But when I work I will do it with full efforts

The Dos Equis Meme Generator puts your own top and bottom text on the "Most Interesting Man in the World" image and lets you download the result as a PNG. Type in the two boxes, watch the preview update as you go, press Download. It is built for the one joke this image is famous for: "I don't always X, but when I do, I Y."

How it works

There are two text fields, one for the line above the picture and one for the line below. Both start with a placeholder joke so the preview is never empty. As you type, the text is drawn onto the 500 by 500 pixel image in the classic white block-capital meme style, and the font shrinks automatically once a line gets long (past about 60 characters on top, 100 on the bottom) so it stays inside the frame. When it looks right, the Download button renders the preview to a PNG called "Dos Equis Meme.png" and saves it to your device. Nothing is uploaded; the image is composed in your browser.

What it doesn't do: there is no font picker, no color choice, no way to move the text, and no image upload. It is one template with two captions, which is all this meme needs.

Writing a good Dos Equis caption

The format has a fixed rhythm, and the joke lives in the gap between the two halves. The top line admits the man doesn't usually do something ordinary; the bottom line reveals that when he does, he does it in an absurdly superior way. A few patterns that work:

  • Straight version. "I don't always test my code" / "But when I do, I do it in production." The bottom line is worse than expected, not better.
  • Self-deprecating. "I don't always go to the gym" / "But when I do, I post about it for a week."
  • Workplace. "I don't always reply to emails" / "But when I do, it's at 11:58 pm on a Friday." These are the ones that get shared in team chats.
  • Inside jokes. Swap in a friend's habit. The template does the heavy lifting, so even a mild observation reads as a punchline.

Keep each line under about 60 characters if you can. The generator will shrink longer text, but a meme you have to squint at is a meme nobody shares.

Where the image comes from

The photo is from the Dos Equis beer advertising campaign "The Most Interesting Man in the World", which ran in the United States from 2006 to 2018 with actor Jonathan Goldsmith in the role until 2016. Each ad ended with the same sign-off: "I don't always drink beer. But when I do, I prefer Dos Equis." The internet kept the sentence structure and dropped the beer, and the format has been a staple of image macros since around 2009. Dos Equis is a trademark of its brewer; this page is a fan tool for making jokes in the format, not an official product.

Frequently asked questions

Is the downloaded meme watermarked?

No. The PNG contains only the image and your two captions, exactly as shown in the preview.

Can I upload my own picture or change the font?

No. This generator uses the single Dos Equis image with the standard meme font. For a different template, use one of the other meme generators on the site.

Why does my text get smaller as I type?

Long captions are scaled down automatically so they stay inside the image. Shorter lines stay at full size and are easier to read once shared.

Can I use the meme I make commercially?

The image comes from a beer advertising campaign and the character is associated with the Dos Equis brand, so keep your memes to personal and social use.
