Goblin Name Generator

Pick male, female or random and get up to 10 one-word goblin names per click, from a list of 944 invented names.

The Goblin Name Generator returns one to ten goblin names per click from a list of 944, with 402 tagged male and 542 female. The names are short, spiky and invented: Prekx, Vrilx, Kloisb, Akuzz, Cruil, Qyhx, Throil, Busz. Most are three to eight letters, heavy on k, x, z and clustered consonants, which is the sound goblins have had in fantasy since Tolkien's orcs and the Warhammer and D&D bestiaries picked it up. It's built for D&D goblin player characters and NPCs, Pathfinder goblins, World of Warcraft alts and any story that needs a warren full of names in one press.

Settings

  • Number of goblin names: 1 to 10 per click, default 5. Each batch is shuffled from the filtered list with no repeats inside it.
  • Gender: Random, Male or Female. Random uses all 944.

What the names sound like

There are no surnames, titles or clan names; every result is a single word. The list is generated from syllable pieces rather than written by hand, so it trades polish for volume. A few patterns run through it:

  • Short grunts of one syllable: Hek, Lic, Put, Acs, Dabs, Niz, Hess, Vron. Good for the goblin who dies in the first round.
  • Hard endings in -x, -z, -kx, -sz, -gs: Prekx, Kleekz, Vygz, Weehzukx, Egeesz, Boirgegs. These are the classic "goblin" sound and read as male to most players even on the female list.
  • Softer two- and three-syllable names: Eltia, Breltia, Frielee, Telmai, Dithee, Flifuszia. The female list has more of these, which is the main difference between the two filters; there's no strict rule, and names cross over freely.
  • Long tongue-twisters of ten letters or more, about 6 percent of the list: Gniggiehxee, Neabseexee, Cliabdalke, Gliapnioth. Fine for a goblin boss or a shaman, harder to say at the table.

Because the names are generated, occasional results are awkward to pronounce (Qyhx, Phanyfs). Generate ten and keep the ones you can say out loud; that's the intended workflow.

Goblins across the games these names fit

Different settings give goblins different naming habits, and the list leans toward the first two:

  • D&D 5e. Published goblins are named Yeemik, Droop, Grol, Klarg, Lhupo: short, harsh, one word. The short and hard-ending names here match that exactly. Goblins are a playable race in Volo's Guide and Monsters of the Multiverse, and a player character can carry the same style of name.
  • Pathfinder. Goblins are a core ancestry in Second Edition and their canon names (Chuffy, Poog, Reta, Mogmurch) are sillier and more sing-song. The softer two-syllable names on the female list are closer to that tone.
  • World of Warcraft. Goblin NPCs use snappy names with a hard consonant (Gazlowe, Sassy, Grizzle, Kezan-style spellings). Pick a short result and add a made-up surname like Fizzwidget or Sparkspanner if the character needs one.
  • Folklore and Labyrinth-style stories. If your goblins are closer to hobgoblins or brownies, these names are probably too harsh; the Gnome Name Generator is a better fit for small, mischievous but friendly creatures.

For the rest of a fantasy cast, the Elden Ring Name Generator and Medieval Name Generator cover the humans, the Witch Name Generator handles the hag the goblins work for, and the Random God Name Generator can name whatever they worship. All of these are under all name generators.

Frequently asked questions

Does it make female goblin names?

Yes. Set Gender to Female and results come from the 542 female-tagged names, which skew toward softer two-syllable forms like Eltia or Frielee, though hard names like Busz and Qyhx are in that list too.

Are the names good for D&D?

Yes. They follow the short, harsh style of published 5e goblins (Klarg, Grol, Yeemik). For a Pathfinder goblin, the sillier two-syllable names fit better.

How many goblin names are in the list?

944 in total, 402 male and 542 female. You can generate 1 to 10 per click.

Do the names have meanings or clan names?

No. Each result is a single invented word with no meaning attached. Add a clan or tribe name yourself if the setting calls for one.
