Random Celebrity Generator

The Random Celebrity Generator picks one famous person from a list of 1,666 and shows a profile card: photo, name, profession, date of birth, place of birth, nationality and estimated net worth. The list spans athletes, actors, musicians, business people, politicians and royals, so a "random famous person" here can be J.K. Rowling one press and an NFL quarterback the next.

Filters

Two dropdowns narrow the draw. Gender is Random, Male or Female. Field is Random or one of four groups: Sports & Athletics (684 people), Movies & Entertainment (488), Business (292) and Politics (202). The filters combine, so "Female + Politics" draws only from women in politics. One person appears per press. The list is uneven by gender: 1,297 entries are recorded as male and 251 as female, and roughly 120 have no gender recorded, so they only turn up when Gender is left on Random.

Under each field the list is organized into sub-groups of roughly 50 people each, though these are not selectable from the page. Sports covers NBA, NFL, soccer, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, boxing, MMA, wrestling, racing, Olympians and coaches. Movies & Entertainment covers actors, singers, rappers, rock musicians, DJs, comedians, directors, producers, models and authors. Business includes billionaires, designers and chefs. Politics includes US presidents, Democrats, Republicans and royals. If you want a narrower draw than the four fields, the site has dedicated pickers for actors, singers, rappers and YouTubers.

What the profile card shows

• Photo and name. Every entry has a picture.
• Profession. A comma-separated list as recorded, such as "Writer, Author, Novelist, Film Producer". Where it is blank the card shows the sub-group instead (for example "Actor").
• Date of birth and place of birth. Month, day and year, plus the town or city (Yate; Newburgh; New York City).
• Nationality. 895 of the 1,666 are from the United States, with the United Kingdom (129 including entries recorded as England), Canada, France, Brazil and Germany next. About 170 entries have no nationality recorded and show NA.
• Net worth. A rounded figure such as $1 Billion or $800 Million.

Any field that was not available when the list was compiled shows as NA. Height is stored for some people but not displayed.

About the net worth figures

The net worth on each card is an estimate of the kind published by celebrity-finance sites, captured at the time the list was built. It is not updated live, and for people whose wealth is tied to company shares or who have died since, it will be out of date. Treat it as an order-of-magnitude figure, useful for a "who is richer" party game and nothing more precise. The same applies to place of birth, which is the town as recorded (Marion County, Lake Charles) rather than a full address.

Ways people use it

• Party games. Charades, Heads Up-style guessing ("Who am I?"), or a higher-or-lower game on net worth. Generate, read the clues off the card, and let the group guess.
• Trivia writing. Each card has three or four facts that make ready quiz questions: birthplace, birth year, profession.
• Drawing and impression prompts. A random famous face to sketch or imitate.
• Classroom research. Assign each student a random public figure to profile. The Politics and Business filters keep it on-topic for civics or economics classes.
• Writing exercises. Drop a generated celebrity into a scene, or use their birthplace as a setting.
