Random GIF Generator

The Random GIF Generator shows one animated GIF each time you press the button, picked at random from a fixed set of 87 clips hosted on Giphy. There's no search box, no mood filter and no keyword input; the whole point is that you don't choose. Press, look, press again. It's a small, quick page for when you want a random reaction image and don't want to scroll a GIF keyboard for five minutes.

How it works

The set behind the button is a list of 87 Giphy media links that we picked by hand: reaction clips, short meme loops and a few animal and cartoon moments. Each press picks one link at random and loads it into the page at 300 pixels wide (200 on phones). The files are Giphy's lightweight .webp previews, so they load fast and loop automatically, but they are previews rather than full-size downloads. Because the pick is random and the set is small, you'll see the same clip twice within a couple of dozen presses.

The images are served from Giphy's CDN, not from this site. If Giphy retires a clip, that entry will show a broken image until we replace it; press again and you'll get a different one.

Saving or sharing the GIF you got

There's no download button, so use the browser instead:

• Copy the link: right-click (or long-press) the image and choose "Copy image address". Paste that into Slack, Discord, WhatsApp or a tweet and most apps will embed the animation.
• Save the file: right-click and "Save image as". You'll get a .webp file. Most chat apps and browsers play it; if you need a true .gif, open the Giphy page for the clip (the media ID is in the URL) and download from there.
• Drag it: on desktop you can drag the image straight into a chat window in most apps.

Ways to use a random GIF

• Reaction roulette. Reply to a message with whatever comes up. It's a running joke in some group chats: the GIF is your answer, no matter what it is.
• Icebreakers. "Generate a GIF and explain how it describes your week" works in a team stand-up or a classroom warm-up.
• Caption games. Everyone gets the same random clip and writes a caption; best one wins. Screen-share the page so the group sees the same pick.
• Mood reset. Two or three presses is a thirty-second break that doesn't pull you into a feed.

GIF, webp and what you're actually seeing

The GIF format dates from 1987 and tops out at 256 colors per frame, which is why old GIFs look grainy. Giphy and most modern platforms store the original but serve smaller .webp or .mp4 versions for speed, and that's what this page loads. It looks and behaves like a GIF (it loops, it has no sound, it plays without a click) but the file on disk is webp. Nearly every browser and messaging app made after 2020 handles it; if an older tool refuses the file, convert it or fetch the .gif original from Giphy.
