Random MLB Team Generator

The Random MLB Team Generator draws between one and five of the 30 Major League Baseball clubs and shows each one as a card with its logo, name and division. That's the whole tool: no seasons, no rosters, no stats. It's for the moments when you need a team assigned rather than chosen, such as picking who plays as whom in MLB The Show, settling which club to follow for a season, or running a quick baseball trivia round.

How it works

Enter a number from 1 to 5 and press the button. The list of 30 is shuffled on each click and the first few are shown, so a batch of five never contains the same team twice. Ask for one team to make a single pick, or five to fill out a small draft. There's no filter by league or division; if you want, say, only National League teams, generate a few at a time and skip the American League cards.

What's on each card

Three things: the club's current primary logo, its full name (Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays) and its division, written out as "American League East" or "National League Central". The list reflects the league as it stands in 2026, with the Cleveland Guardians under their post-2021 name and the Athletics listed without a city since they left Oakland after the 2024 season.

The 30 teams by division

Every team in the generator, grouped the way MLB groups them. Each division has five clubs.

Twenty-nine of the thirty play in the United States; the Toronto Blue Jays are the only Canadian club. The two leagues have been split into three divisions each since 1994, and the Houston Astros' 2013 move from the NL Central to the AL West is what gave both leagues an even 15 teams.

Ways people use it

• Video game randomizers. In MLB The Show or a franchise mode, letting the generator pick your club is a common way to start a "random team" career. Generate two teams for a head-to-head match.
• Picking a team to follow. New fans, or fans whose team is out of the race by August, use it to adopt a club for the rest of the season.
• Trivia and quiz nights. Generate a team and ask for its division, its home stadium or its most recent World Series win. The division answer is right there on the card for the quizmaster.
• Fantasy and pool assignments. When a group of friends each needs a team for a season-long wager, five clicks assign five teams with no arguments.
• Practice for team-name jerseys, logos and art. Designers and kids doing a school project draw a team to redraw the logo or design an alternate uniform.
