Random Sonic Character Generator

The Random Sonic Character Generator picks one to ten characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog games, cartoons and comics and shows each one as a card with its name and picture. The list has 93 entries, and it's the real cast rather than made-up fan characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Shadow, Rouge, Silver, Blaze, Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic and the rest. It's the tool to use when you can't decide who to draw, who to main, or who to be in a Sonic-themed game.

What you can set

One field: the number of characters, from 1 to 10. The default is 1. Every click reshuffles the full list before taking the first few, so a batch of 10 never repeats a character, but the same character can show up again on the next click.

Who is on the list

The 93 entries cover the whole franchise, not just the current games. The rough breakdown:

• Core game cast: Sonic, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Shadow the Hedgehog, Rouge the Bat, Silver the Hedgehog, Blaze the Cat, Cream the Rabbit, Big the Cat, and Team Chaotix (Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, Charmy Bee).
• Villains and robots: Dr. Eggman, Eggman Nega, Metal Sonic, Metal Knuckles, Mecha Sonic, E-102 Gamma, E-123 Omega, Orbot and Cubot, Infinite, Black Doom, Dark Gaia, Chaos, the Deadly Six and Zoah Brute, Dr. Starline, Fang the Hunter, Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite.
• Riders, Boom and spin-off characters: Jet the Hawk, Wave the Swallow and Storm the Albatross (the Babylon Rogues), Sticks the Badger, Marine the Raccoon, Shade the Echidna, Emerl, Tikal, Chip and Wisp.
• SatAM, Archie and IDW comics: Princess Sally Acorn, Bunnie and Antoine D'Coolette, Rotor the Walrus, Nicole the Holo-Lynx, Uncle Chuck, Tangle the Lemur, Whisper the Wolf, Gold the Tenrec, Sonar the Fennec, Tumble the Skunk and Lien-Da.
• Sonic Underground and Sonic X: Manic and Sonia the Hedgehog, Christopher Thorndyke, Cosmo, Maria Robotnik.
• Movie versions: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow each have a separate "(Paramount)" entry with the film design, plus Agent Stone from the films.
• Forms and groups: Super Sonic, Sonic the Werehog, Tails Doll, Tails Nine, Team Dark, the Freedom Fighters, Animal Friends, Chao and Omochao.

Because the list mixes game, comic and movie versions, a batch of five can hand you Sally Acorn next to Paramount's Knuckles. If you only want the game cast, generate ten and ignore the comic and film entries.

Ways to use a random Sonic pick

• Art challenges. Draw whoever comes up, in whatever style the picture suggests. The Paramount and Classic variants make good "redesign this" prompts.
• Picking a main. Sonic Racing, Sonic Battle, Sonic Heroes team-building or Smash-style tier debates: let the generator settle it.
• Trivia and guessing games. One person generates, reads the name, and the group has to describe the character's debut game or first appearance.
• Fan fiction casting. Roll three and write a scene with all of them. Big the Cat, Whisper the Wolf and Eggman Nega in one room is a plot.
• Cosplay or costume decisions for a group that can't agree.
