Sentence Expander

Paste a sentence or short paragraph and get a longer version written by AI, streamed into the page as it is generated.

The Sentence Expander takes a sentence or a short paragraph and rewrites it at greater length, adding explanation, detail and connective tissue while keeping the original point. Paste the text, press the button, and the longer version streams into the page a few words at a time as the model writes it. It's for the paragraph that is correct but thin: the cover-letter line that needs a second sentence, the product blurb that stops too soon, the essay point you know is right but haven't unpacked.

How it works

The box accepts up to 2,500 characters, with a live counter, and strips any HTML before sending. When you press Generate Sentence the text goes to our API, which asks a language model for an expanded version and streams the answer back over a server-sent events connection. That is why the output appears progressively instead of all at once; on a longer paragraph you can start reading before it finishes. If nothing arrives within 30 seconds the page shows a "please try again" message rather than leaving you waiting.

There are no length or tone controls. The expansion target is fixed on the server, so the way to steer the result is to feed it the right amount of text. One sentence in gives you a few sentences out; a whole paragraph in gives a longer paragraph, not an essay. If you want a specific angle, it works best to add a short instruction to the end of the input, such as "expand with an example" or "keep the formal tone".

What you get

The result appears under an "Extended Sentence" heading. Below it are a copy button, a download button that saves the text as expanded_sentence.txt, and share buttons for WhatsApp, X and Facebook. Nothing is stored on our side; generate again and the previous result is replaced.

Expanding without padding

An expander is only useful if the extra words carry something. A few ways to keep the result honest:

  • Read the additions as claims. The model may introduce a reason, an example or a statistic that sounds plausible. Keep the ones that are true for your case and cut the rest.
  • Expand the idea, not the sentence. Feed it a full thought ("Remote work cut our office costs but made onboarding harder") rather than a fragment, and the expansion will explain rather than restate.
  • Watch for hedging. Expanded text tends to accumulate "in order to", "it is important to note" and similar filler. Delete those on the way back into your document.
  • Check the voice. If the input is first person and casual, make sure the output didn't drift into corporate third person.

Before and after

InputWhat a good expansion adds
Our team ships every Friday. Why Friday, what "ships" covers, and what happens when something isn't ready
The museum's new wing opened in March. What it houses, who designed it, and how it changed the visitor route
I'm applying because I like solving hard problems. One concrete problem, what you did, and why this role has more of them

If you have the opposite problem and need words removed, there isn't a shortener on this page. For text that doesn't need to mean anything, the Random Paragraph Generator and Random Sentence Generator produce filler; to write a fresh line from a topic rather than stretch an existing one, use the AI Sentence Generator. To round off a piece once it's long enough, the Conclusion Generator drafts the closing paragraph. More are listed under all writing & AI tools.

Frequently asked questions

How much longer will my text get?

It varies with the input. A single sentence usually becomes three to five; a paragraph grows by roughly half to double. The target length is set on the server and can't be changed from the page.

Why does the text appear word by word?

The API streams the model's output as it is written, so the page shows it as it arrives rather than waiting for the whole response. On a long paragraph this can take 10 to 20 seconds.

Is there a limit on input length?

Yes, 2,500 characters, which is about 400 words. The counter under the box shows how much you have used. Longer pieces are best expanded a paragraph at a time.

Will it change the meaning of my sentence?

It shouldn't, but it can add supporting details that aren't true for your situation. Read the result as a draft and remove anything you can't stand behind.

Can I use it for academic writing?

You can use it to draft, but check your institution's rules on AI assistance, and verify every added fact. Padding an essay with unverified expansion is the fastest way to lose marks.
