South Africa Phone Number Generator
Get one to ten made-up South African numbers in +27-XX-XXX-XXXX format, each on a card with a copy button. The South Africa Phone Number Generator gives you between one and ten made-up numbers in the pattern +27-XX-XXX-XXXX: the +27 country code followed by nine random digits, split the way South Africans write them. Each number sits on its own card labeled "South Africa" with a copy button. It is meant for developers, testers and designers who need South African-looking numbers for forms, fixtures and mockups, not for finding random numbers to call.
The one setting
Type how many numbers you want (1 to 10) and press Generate Phone Number. That is the whole form. There is no city picker and no mobile-versus-landline switch; every digit after +27 is drawn at random in your browser. Run it again and the previous batch is replaced.
What you get back
A row of cards, one per number, each showing the number in +27-XX-XXX-XXXX form. Click the copy icon and the number lands on your clipboard; a checkmark confirms it. Because the digits are random, the two digits after +27 might be a real area code like 11 or 21, or a block like 00 that South Africa has never assigned. For test data that only needs the right length and prefix this does not matter. If a person will read the number, swap in one of the real prefixes from the table below.
Where it fits
- Validating a phone field. Check that your signup form accepts +27, tolerates hyphens and rejects anything shorter than nine digits after the country code.
- Seeding a test CRM. Ten numbers per click fills a customer table for a Cape Town or Johannesburg storefront without touching production data.
- Design mockups. A business card or invoice for a South African client looks more real with a +27 number than with a US-style 555 placeholder.
- Scripts and fiction. A character in Durban needs a number on screen; a random one avoids printing someone's actual line.
How South African phone numbers are structured
South Africa uses country code +27 and a closed numbering plan: every number is ten digits when dialed domestically, a leading 0 plus nine digits. Calling from abroad, you drop that 0 and dial +27 followed by the nine digits, which is exactly what this generator produces. The first two digits after the 0 tell you what kind of number it is:
- Landlines use geographic area codes: 011 and 010 for Johannesburg, 012 for Pretoria, 021 for Cape Town, 031 for Durban, 041 for Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and 051 for Bloemfontein. The subscriber number is seven digits.
- Mobile numbers start with 06, 07 or 08. Historically 082 belonged to Vodacom, 083 to MTN and 084 to Cell C, though number portability means a prefix no longer guarantees the network.
- Special ranges include 0800 for toll-free, 086 for shared-cost and premium services, and 087 for VoIP providers.

Frequently asked questions
- Are these real South African numbers I can call?
No. Every digit after +27 is random and there is no directory behind the tool. A result could coincidentally match a real subscriber, so treat the output as placeholder data and do not dial or message it.
- Why do some numbers have a prefix that does not exist?
The generator does not check the first two digits against South Africa's allocated area codes. If you need a believable prefix, replace those two digits with 11, 21, 31, 82 or another code from the table above.
- How do I write one of these numbers the way South Africans dial it?
Drop the +27 and add a leading 0. A generated +27-21-456-7890 becomes 021 456 7890 domestically, which is ten digits in total.
- Can I generate more than ten at a time?
Not in a single click; the input accepts 1 to 10. Press the button again for another ten. There is no cap on how many times you run it.
