Most are human-sounding full names (Archer Steiger, Romana McLaren, Vance Galven), and about forty are Andorian names with the sh', ch', zh' and th' clan prefixes the franchise uses. It is meant for Star Trek Online characters, fan fiction, and the tabletop games set in the universe.
What the list actually contains
The old version of this page promised Klingon, Borg and fleet names. The list has none of those, so here is what it does have.
- Human Starfleet-style names (about 290). A first name that leans toward the slightly formal or old-fashioned choices the shows favor (Archer, Corvin, Peregrine, Ceridwen, Morgana, Darwin, Wynston) paired with a surname from a pool that repeats across the list: Galven, Barick, Tindal, Rhyne, Zechiel, Dituri, Mattix, Croyle, Hohstadt. Because the surname pool is small, two names in one batch can share a family name, which reads naturally as siblings or a Starfleet family line.
- Andorian names (about 40). Hjalmar sh'Fochi, Tharri zh'Dila, Tholev ch'Sena, Thelthaa ch'Tala, Hargra zh'Vosa, Thari sh'Vrella. These follow the convention used from Enterprise onward, where the clan name carries a prefix that marks which of the four Andorian sexes the character is.
Names are plain text on a card, with no species label, rank or ship. There is no filter for human versus Andorian; each press shuffles the whole list.
How Andorian names work
The Andorian entries are the distinctive part of the list, so it helps to know how to read them. In the tie-in novels and later shows, Andorians have four sexes, and the prefix on the clan name tells you which one a character is:

Canon examples are Shran, whose full name is Thy'lek Shran, and Thelin th'Valrass from the animated series. If you are building an Andorian for Star Trek Online or a Star Trek Adventures campaign, pick a name whose prefix matches the sex you have in mind, or ignore the rule the way most players do.
Uses
- Star Trek Online characters and bridge officers. The most common reason people search for a Star Trek Online name generator. Draw ten names and assign them across your bridge crew; the recurring surnames make a plausible roster.
- Fan fiction background crew. Ensigns, transporter chiefs and the security officer who does not survive the episode all need names that sound like they belong on a Starfleet duty roster rather than in a fantasy novel.
- Star Trek Adventures and other tabletop games. The game master needs a starbase full of NPCs. Generate a batch per location and note which ones are Andorian.
- Ship and away-team rosters for fan films or LARPs. Consistent-sounding names for costumes and name tags.

Frequently asked questions
- Does it generate Klingon, Vulcan or Borg names?
No. The list contains human-style Starfleet names and Andorian names only. There are no Klingon house names, no Vulcan names beginning with T' or S, and no Borg designations like Seven of Nine.
- Can I use these names in Star Trek Online?
Yes. The names are original and short enough for the character creator, and the Andorian ones follow the prefix convention the game itself uses for that species. If a name is taken, add a middle initial or swap the surname for another one from the list.
- Are any of these canon characters?
No. All 329 names were written for this generator. A few first names (Archer, Janus, Galen) echo characters or actors from the shows, but none of the full names belongs to a canon character.
- Why do surnames repeat between results?
The list uses a surname pool of a few dozen family names, so a batch of ten can include two Galvens or two Tindals. Treat them as relatives or press again for a fresh draw.
