Twitter Username Generator
Type your name, choose a style and get up to 20 Twitter (X) handle ideas, each with a copy button and a link to check if it is taken. The Twitter Username Generator turns a name into up to 20 handle ideas. You type a name (yours, a brand, a character), pick a vibe such as professional, gamer or cute, optionally set a length range and a favorite number, and press Generate. Each result comes on a card with a copy button and a link that opens twitter.com/that-handle so you can see straight away whether it is taken.
Twitter is X now, but people still search for "twitter username generator" and the handle rules have not changed, so the page keeps its name.
The three steps
- Who are you? A single required field for the name you want the handles built around. It is sent to our username API to generate the ideas and is not stored.
- Username vibe. Twelve radio options: All styles, Professional, Nature-inspired, Artistic, Fantasy, Catchy, Sporty, Cute, Tech-inspired, Sci-fi, Funny and Gamer. The first six show by default; a "show more" toggle reveals the rest. Pick one, not several.
- Optional settings (the gear tab). A favorite number to work into the handles, and a length slider from 1 to 32 characters. Both are optional; the defaults are no number and any length.
Results are generated by our own username service (the same one behind the site's other social handle tools), not picked from a fixed list, so two people entering the same name will get different sets.
Set the maximum length to 15
This is the one setting that matters most for X. Handles on X are limited to 15 characters and may only contain letters, numbers and underscores. The slider goes up to 32 because the same generator serves platforms with longer limits, so drag the right end down to 15 before you generate, or you will get suggestions you cannot actually register. Display names are separate and allow up to 50 characters, spaces and emoji, but the handle is what appears after the @.
X also blocks handles containing "Twitter" or "Admin" unless the account is official, and a handle that was deleted or suspended may be unavailable for a while even though the profile page shows nothing.
Checking availability
Each card's check link opens the profile URL for that handle in a new tab. If X shows "This account doesn't exist", the handle is free at that moment. The generator itself does not query X, so the link is the only availability check; there is no live "available" badge, and a handle can be taken between your check and your signup.
What the vibes tend to produce
| Vibe | Typical output for the name "Maya Chen" |
|---|---|
| Professional | MayaChenWrites, MChen_Official, MayaChenHQ |
| Gamer | MayaXChen, ChenPlays, MayaGG_ |
| Cute | MayaBean, LilMayaChen, MayaChenxo |
| Tech-inspired | MayaDotChen, ChenByte, MayaChenDev |
| Funny | MayaOrNever, ChenAndTonic, NotMayaChen |
Those are illustrative of the style each vibe leans toward; your own batch will differ. Add a favorite number (say, 7) and it appears at the end or between words: MayaChen7, Maya7Chen.
Who this is for
- New accounts where the obvious @firstlast is gone and you need variations that still read as you.
- Brand and project accounts that want a professional or tech-flavored handle without a string of digits.
- Alt and fandom accounts where a cute, funny or fantasy handle is the point.
- Matching handles across platforms. Once you find one you like here, check it on the Snapchat Username Generator, Telegram Username Generator or Twitch Name Generator, which use the same engine tuned to each platform's rules.
If you don't want the handle tied to a real name at all, the general Username Generator works from keywords instead. Gamers may prefer the PSN Name Generator or Steam Name Generator. See all name generators for the rest.
Frequently asked questions
- How long can a Twitter (X) username be?
Up to 15 characters, using only letters, numbers and underscores. Set the length slider's upper end to 15 in the optional settings so every suggestion is registrable. Display names are a separate field with a 50-character limit.
- Does the generator check whether a handle is available?
Not automatically. Each result has a link that opens twitter.com/ followed by the handle in a new tab. If X reports that the account doesn't exist, the handle is free at that moment.
- Can I get random usernames without entering a name?
Not on this page; the name field is required because the ideas are built from it. For name-free handles, use the Username Generator, which works from keywords, or enter a single word you like instead of a name.
- Is my name stored?
No. The name, vibe, number and length are sent to our username API to generate the batch and are not saved or shared.
- Can I generate aesthetic or cute Twitter usernames?
Choose the Cute, Artistic or Nature-inspired vibe. Those produce softer, shorter handles; combine with a short length range (say 6 to 12) for the aesthetic look.
