USPS Tracking Number Generator

Enter a two-letter service prefix and a count (1 to 10) to get fake 13-character tracking numbers like RA123456789US for testing.

This tool produces fake tracking numbers that look like the 13-character labels USPS uses for registered and international mail: two letters, nine digits, then US, for example RA123456789US. You set the two-letter prefix (the default is RA, the code for registered mail) and how many numbers you want, from 1 to 10. The numbers are random. They are not registered with USPS, they will not return any events on the USPS tracking page, and nothing about them is "valid" beyond having the right length and shape. That makes them useful for one thing: testing software that stores, displays or validates tracking numbers, without waiting for real shipments.

What you can set

  • Service indicator: the letters at the start. The tool uses whatever you type, so you can enter RA, EA, CP, LZ or any pair of letters that matches the kind of mail your test needs to imitate. It does not check that the code is a real USPS service.
  • Number of tracking numbers: 1 to 10 per click.

Each result appears on a card. The nine digits in the middle are drawn one at a time at random. Real numbers in this format end their digit block with a check digit computed from the first eight; the generator does not compute one, so most results would fail a strict check-digit test. If your validator enforces the checksum, expect these to be rejected, which is itself a useful negative test case.

What it is good for, and what it is not

  • Developer test fixtures. Seed an orders table or a shipment API mock with tracking numbers of the correct length, then check that they display, sort and link correctly in your UI.
  • Form and regex testing. Confirm that an input field accepts the letters-digits-US pattern, and see how your code handles lowercase or spaces if you edit a result.
  • Demo screenshots and training slides. A shipment screen looks more convincing with a tracking number than with a blank field, and a fake number cannot leak a real customer's parcel.
  • Not for marketplaces or customers. Some people search for a way to generate valid tracking numbers for dropshipping. This tool cannot do that. A tracking number only means something when the carrier has scanned a label, and giving a buyer a made-up number is fraud on most platforms.

USPS tracking number formats

USPS uses several formats depending on the service. The tool imitates only the first row.

FormatUsed forExample pattern
2 letters + 9 digits + US (13 characters)Registered Mail (RA–RZ), Priority Mail Express International (EA–EZ), international parcels (CA–CZ), some tracked letters (LA–LZ). This is the UPU S10 standard.RA 123 456 789 US
22 digits starting with 94, 93 or 92Domestic Priority Mail, First-Class Package, Ground Advantage and most parcels9400 1000 0000 0000 0000 00
20 digitsOlder domestic delivery confirmation labels0307 1790 0000 0000 0000
26 or 30 digitsSome commercial and customer-generated labels9205 5000 0000 0000 0000 0000 00

In the 13-character S10 format, the first letter tells you the service class and the second is a serial letter, the eight digits are the item number, the ninth digit is a modulus-11 check digit, and the final two letters are the origin country. Every domestic 22-digit label also ends with a check digit. If you are writing a validator, test both the happy path with real numbers from your own shipments and the failure path with output from this page.

Frequently asked questions

Will a generated number work on the USPS tracking page?

No. USPS only tracks numbers printed on labels it has scanned. A generated number returns a not-found or no-record message, which is the expected result.

Can I use these numbers for dropshipping or to satisfy a marketplace?

No. Marketplaces and payment processors check tracking numbers with the carrier, and providing a fabricated one counts as fraud. Use real labels from your shipping provider.

Does the generator make 22-digit domestic USPS numbers?

Not at the moment. It produces only the 13-character letters-plus-US format. For a 22-digit number, start with 9400 or 9205 and fill the rest with digits yourself, remembering that real ones end in a check digit.

What should I type in the service indicator box?

Any two letters. RA is registered mail, EA to EZ are Priority Mail Express International, CA to CZ are parcels and LA to LZ are tracked letters. The tool accepts other text too, but sticking to two capital letters keeps the length at 13.
