It is for people setting up a channel who have a name in mind but want it shaped into something that works as an @handle: shorter, one word, no spaces, with a twist that matches the kind of videos they plan to make.
The three steps
- Who are you. A single text box for your name. It is required, and it is the seed for everything else; the suggestions are built around it rather than pulled from a fixed list.
- Username vibe. One of twelve styles: All styles, Professional, Nature-Inspired, Artistic, Fantasy, Catchy, Sporty, Cute, Tech-Inspired, Sci-Fi, Funny and Gamer. Each radio button shows two example handles so you can tell the flavors apart (Professional gives things like ProWriterKate; Gamer gives things like GamingHero87).
- Optional settings. A favorite number to weave in, and a length slider from 1 to 32 characters. Leave the slider alone if you don't care; the default range allows anything.
Results are generated on our server, so the page needs an internet connection and takes a second or two. If the service is busy you will see a "please try again" message rather than an empty list.
What YouTube actually allows in a handle
YouTube has two different names. The channel name is display text and can contain spaces, capitals and most characters. The handle is the @name that appears in your URL (youtube.com/@handle), in comments and in Shorts, and it has firm rules:

The generator's length slider tops out at 32 rather than 30, so the longest suggestions can be two characters over YouTube's limit; trim them if that happens. Everything else it produces uses letters and numbers only, which keeps you inside the rules.
Picking one that lasts
- Say it out loud. Viewers will hear the name before they read it. Numbers and underscores are hard to say ("CodeNinja underscore 42").
- Match the handle to the channel name. If your channel is "Kate Writes," a handle of @ProWriterKate makes sense; @DragonKnight77 doesn't.
- Check more than YouTube. The card's link checks the YouTube handle. Run the same name through the Twitter Username Generator, Twitch Name Generator and Snapchat Username Generator pages, or check those platforms directly, so you can hold the same name everywhere.
- Avoid the year. "2026" in a handle dates it by next spring. A favorite number that means something to you ages better.
- Don't lean on the vibe word. Suggestions in the Gamer style may include "gamer" or "gaming" in the name. That's fine for a small channel, but the well-known gaming channels rarely say "gaming" in their handle.

- Does it check whether the handle is available on YouTube?
Not automatically. Each result card has a YouTube icon that opens youtube.com/@thatname in a new tab. If YouTube shows a channel, the handle is taken; if it shows a 404 page, it is probably free (YouTube also reserves some names, so the only certain test is trying to claim it in your channel settings).
- Why do I have to enter a name?
The suggestions are built from the name you provide combined with the vibe you pick, not drawn from a stock list. Without a name there is nothing to build from. You can enter a nickname, a topic or a made-up word instead of your real name.
- How many suggestions do I get?
Up to 20 per run. Change the vibe, the number or the length and run it again for a different set.
- What is the difference between a YouTube channel name and a handle?
The channel name is the display title and can include spaces. The handle is the unique @name in your channel URL, 3 to 30 characters, letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and periods only. This tool generates handles.
- Is my name stored?
The name is sent to our username service to build the suggestions and is not saved or shared.
