Random Address in Virginia

Get 1 to 15 fictional street addresses in 39 real Virginia cities, each with a ZIP code that belongs to that city, ready to copy.

This tool gives you between 1 and 15 random addresses in Virginia, each on its own card with a copy button. Every address follows the standard US single-line format, for example 4711 Church St., Emporia, VA 23847: a house number, a street, a real Virginia city, the VA abbreviation and a five-digit ZIP code that genuinely belongs to that city. The street and number are invented, so nothing here points to a real house. It is meant for form testing, sample data, mockups and fiction, and it is a quicker way to get a plausible VA address than making one up and guessing at the ZIP.

How it works

Type a number from 1 to 15 and press the button. The tool shuffles a fixed list of 1,000 Virginia addresses we generated in advance and shows the first few, so a batch never contains the same address twice. Press again for a new batch. There is no city filter; if you need addresses in one place, generate 15 and keep the ones you want, or use the copy button on each card to collect them one at a time. The copy button puts the full single-line address on your clipboard, which is handy when filling in a checkout form over and over.

What is real and what is made up

  • City and ZIP code are real and match. The 39 cities are Virginia's independent cities plus Blacksburg, from Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church and Manassas in Northern Virginia to Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach in Hampton Roads, Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights along the James, and Roanoke, Lynchburg, Salem, Radford, Blacksburg, Bristol, Galax, Norton and Danville in the west and south. Each address carries a ZIP that is in use in that city, such as 23219 for downtown Richmond or 24011 for Roanoke.
  • Street names are generic. There are 49 of them, the sort of names that exist in almost every American town: Main St., Church St., Maple St., 2nd through 6th St., Railroad St., Summit St. Whether a given town has, say, a Poplar St. is not something we checked.
  • House numbers are random, from single digits up to 9988. A number like 9187 on a short small-town street will not exist, which is the point: the addresses look right at a glance without being deliverable.

Because the ZIP matches the city, the addresses pass the ZIP-to-state and ZIP-to-city checks that many web forms run. They will not pass USPS address verification (CASS), which checks the house number against the actual street range. If you need addresses that verify, use a USPS or SmartyStreets test set instead.

Virginia address facts worth knowing

Virginia ZIP codes run from 201 (Dulles and the Manassas area) through 246 (the far southwest corner near Norton and Bristol). The 22x prefixes cover Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley (Alexandria 223, Fredericksburg 224, Winchester 226, Harrisonburg 228, Charlottesville 229), 23x covers Richmond, the Peninsula and Hampton Roads, and 24x covers Roanoke, Lynchburg and everything west. Virginia is unusual among US states in having 38 independent cities that are not part of any county, which is why a mailing address says "Fairfax, VA" whether you are in Fairfax city or the surrounding Fairfax County, and why Manassas and Manassas Park are separate cities with separate ZIPs (20110 and 20111) despite sharing a border. The two-letter abbreviation is VA; older printed material sometimes uses "Va.", but USPS wants the two capital letters with no period.

Ways people use it

  • Testing checkout and signup forms – a Virginia address with a valid city and ZIP exercises state tax and shipping-zone logic without touching real customer data.
  • Seeding a database or CRM demo – fifteen addresses per press, copied one by one, fill a demo account with records that look local.
  • Fiction and screenwriting – a character who lives at 770 Birch St., Winchester, VA 22601 feels grounded without borrowing a real resident's address.
  • Design mockups – shipping labels, envelopes, ID card templates and map pins need a realistic address that will not embarrass anyone if the mockup is published.
  • Other states – the same format is available for neighbors and other regions: Random Address in Delaware, Random Address in Connecticut, Random Illinois Address and Random Address in Colorado. For an address anywhere in the country, use the Random US Address Generator.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real Virginia addresses?

No. The city, state and ZIP code are real and consistent with each other, but the street name and house number are invented, so the addresses do not correspond to real homes or businesses. Do not use them for deliveries, ID verification or anything legal.

Do the ZIP codes match the cities?

Yes. Each of the 39 cities in the list is paired only with ZIP codes actually assigned to it, for example Alexandria with 22301 to 22314 and Virginia Beach with 23451 to 23464. Forms that validate ZIP against city or state will accept them.

Can I get a random address in a specific Virginia city?

There is no city filter. Generate 15 at a time and pick the ones in the city you need, or press again until one appears. With 39 cities in the pool, any given city shows up roughly once every two or three batches.

How many addresses can I generate at once?

Between 1 and 15 per press, from a pool of 1,000. There is no limit on how many times you press the button.
