Furry Name Generator
Get 1 to 10 fursona names from a list of 463, filtered by style (best, catchy, cool, cute, unique) or fully random. The Furry Name Generator gives you one to ten names for a fursona or anthro character from a list of 463 entries. Pick a style (best, catchy, cool, cute or unique) or leave it on random, set a count, and press Generate. It is a quick way to get a handful of candidates for a new character, a Telegram or Discord handle, or a con badge when you have a species and a personality in mind but no name.
Options
There are two controls. The style filter has six settings: Random (the whole list), Best, Catchy, Cool, Cute and Unique. The number field takes 1 to 10. Each click reshuffles the filtered list, so a batch never repeats a name, and running it again gives a different set. The filtered pools are small: Cool has 27 names, Cute 49, Catchy 50, Best 54 and Unique 67, so after a few clicks on one style you will start to see repeats. Random draws from all 463.
What the names are like
The list mixes two kinds of entry, and it helps to know that before you generate.
- Invented names. Single made-up words with a soft, pronounceable shape: Trutheim, Seatho, Glamnia, Tandlan, Fethmeig, Okeif. A few are two-part names in the style of warrior-cat or wolf-pack naming, like Rockvixen Cleancoat and Mildhunter Sunnybane. These are the ones most people end up using as an actual character name.
- Word + Fursona. About half the list pairs an English word with "Fursona": Vapor Fursona, Haze Fursona, Regal Fursona, Bear Fursona. These read better as usernames (VaporFursona) or as a prompt for a trait than as a name you would put on a ref sheet. Treat the first word as the idea and drop the suffix.
Nothing in the list is species-specific. A name like Seatho works for a fox, a dragon or a sergal, which is the point: the species and the design come from you, the generator just fills the blank on the ref sheet.
Turning a result into a fursona name
Most fursona names in the community fall into a few patterns, and the generated names slot into all of them.
- Single invented word. The default. Say it out loud; if it sounds wrong in a greeting ("hey, Fethmeig") keep going.
- Real word as a name. Ember, Haze, Vapor, Sable. Take the first half of a "Word Fursona" result and use it on its own.
- Name plus descriptor. The Rockvixen Cleancoat style. Common for wolf and big-cat characters. The Wolf Name Generator has more in that vein if your character is canine.
- Name plus species tag for handles. Seatho_Fox or TrutheimTheDragon for platforms where the short name is taken.
If your character leans toward an existing fandom rather than an original design, the MLP Name Generator and Saiyan Name Generator follow those universes' naming rules. A performer-style stage name for a suiter comes out better from the Drag Queen Name Generator. Everything else is under all name generators.
Frequently asked questions
- Are these names tied to a species?
No. The list has no species field, so every name is meant to work for any anthro character. Pick the species first, then generate names and see which fit the look.
- Why do so many results end in 'Fursona'?
Roughly half the 463 entries are a word plus the suffix. Read the first word as the suggestion and drop 'Fursona' unless you want it in a username.
- Can I check whether a name is already taken?
Not here. Search the name on FurAffinity, Telegram and Discord before committing; single invented words like Trutheim are usually free, while common real words like Ember are almost always taken.
- How many names can I generate at once?
Between 1 and 10 per click. There is no limit on how many times you click.
