Homestuck Troll Name Generator

Get 1 to 10 troll names in the canon six-letter, six-letter pattern, drawn from a list of 500 fan-style names.

The Homestuck Troll Name Generator hands you between one and ten names in the format every canon troll uses: a six-letter first name and a six-letter last name, like Karkat Vantas or Terezi Pyrope. The names come from a fixed list of 500 that was written to sound like Alternian names, with results such as Equtho Firgah, Lirsol Vellix and Vorrok Gammon. It is for anyone making a trollsona, a fantroll for a roleplay, or a batch of background characters for a fan comic.

What you can set

One field: how many names you want, from 1 to 10 (it starts at 3). The list is shuffled on every press and the first few are taken, so you will not see the same name twice within a single batch. Press again for a fresh shuffle. Each name appears on its own card as plain text, with nothing else attached. The tool does not assign a blood caste, a zodiac sign, a lusus or a typing quirk; those are yours to decide.

How the names follow the Homestuck pattern

All twelve original trolls have names of exactly six letters plus six letters: Aradia Megido, Tavros Nitram, Sollux Captor, Karkat Vantas, Nepeta Leijon, Kanaya Maryam, Terezi Pyrope, Vriska Serket, Equius Zahhak, Gamzee Makara, Eridan Ampora and Feferi Peixes. The dancestors in later acts keep the same rule (Kankri Vantas, Meenah Peixes, Damara Megido). Fans treat the 6/6 rule as the one hard requirement for a fantroll name, and every one of the 500 names here passes it.

The list is built from short syllables that echo the canon cast: Kar, Sol, Nep, Equ, Ser, Vor, Zah, Mak and so on, recombined into new pairs. That gives names like Karsol Lannal or Nekeri Visfef that sound at home next to the originals without copying any of them. What the generated names do not carry is the hidden meaning canon names have. Serket is an Egyptian scorpion goddess for the Scorpio troll, Pyrope is a garnet for the Libra troll with red glasses, Zahhak comes from Persian myth. If that layer matters to you, use a generated name as a starting point and swap a syllable to hint at your troll's sign or blood color.

Ways people use it

  • Naming a trollsona quickly, then building the sign, caste and quirk around whichever name feels right.
  • Filling a fan session with eleven other players when you only had one character designed.
  • Pesterlog handles: take the initials of a generated name and build a two-word chumhandle around them, the way canon handles like carcinoGeneticist map to Karkat.
  • Roleplay groups that need a batch of ancestors, dancestors or drones named consistently in one go.

If you need names for a different setting, the site has the same kind of tool for other fandoms and genres: the Navi Name Generator for Avatar, the Argonian Name Generator and Elden Ring Name Generator for game characters, and the Random God Name Generator for something grander. Frequently asked questions

Do the names follow the six-letter rule?

Yes. All 500 names in the list are a six-letter first name followed by a six-letter last name, the same pattern as Karkat Vantas, Vriska Serket and the rest of the canon trolls.

Does it generate a blood color, sign or typing quirk?

No. The output is the name only. Pick the caste, the zodiac or extended-zodiac sign and the quirk yourself once you have a name you like.

Can I use these names for a trollsona or OC?

Yes. They are fan-style names, not characters from the comic, so any of them is free to use for your own troll.

Will I get duplicates?

Not inside one batch, because the list is shuffled and sliced. Across separate presses a name can come back, since each press reshuffles all 500.
