Random New Zealand Address Generator

Get 1 to 15 made-up NZ addresses with street, town, real region and 4-digit postcode, each with a copy button.

Choose how many addresses you want, from 1 to 15, and press Generate Address to get that many random New Zealand addresses on copyable cards. Each line follows the pattern 3026 Agustina Road, Timaru, Canterbury 7084, New Zealand: a street with a real NZ street type, a town, one of the 16 regions, and a four-digit postcode. They are generated fresh each time from name and place lists, not pulled from a directory, so they are safe as placeholders and useless for mail.

Options and output

The count is the only setting. There is no region or city filter; a batch of 15 will usually cover several regions, and you can re-run as often as you like. Each card has a copy icon that copies the full line. Nothing about the addresses is stored.

Real parts and invented parts

The generator combines a New Zealand locale we defined for the Faker library with Faker's standard name lists, so the pieces vary in how real they are:

  • Street: a surname plus a street type common in NZ: Street, Road, Avenue, Place, Drive, Crescent, Terrace, Lane, Way, Grove, Close or Rise. Plausible, but not from a map.
  • Town: sometimes a real place from a list of 30 towns and cities (Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Dunedin, Napier, Whangārei, Taupō, Queenstown and others), sometimes an invented name such as Lorenzomouth or Feestshire built from name parts.
  • Region: always one of the 16 real regions: Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatū-Whanganui, Wellington, Tasman, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland.
  • Postcode: four random digits. The town and region are picked independently of each other and of the postcode, so a line can pair Dunedin with Auckland region or a 1xxx postcode with Otago.

That independence is the important caveat. The lines pass any check that only looks at format (four-digit postcode, region present), and fail any check that verifies postcode against place.

Sensible uses

  • Seeding a test database. Generate 15, paste them into a customer table, and you have NZ-looking records with macrons (Whangārei, Taupō, Manawatū) to exercise your character handling.
  • Form and checkout QA. Confirm that your region dropdown and four-digit postcode field accept New Zealand input, and that shipping estimates don't crash on it.
  • Mockups and demos. A localized screenshot needs a local-looking address rather than a US one.
  • Writing. A street and suburb for a character in Christchurch or Nelson without borrowing a real person's home.

They are not for signing up to services that require a genuine NZ address, for deliveries, or for anything that involves identity checks.

How New Zealand addresses and postcodes work

NZ Post's preferred format puts the street on one line, the suburb on the next, then the town or city with the four-digit postcode:

LineExample
RecipientHana Walker
Unit and street2/14 Victoria Street
SuburbPetone
Town or city and postcodeLower Hutt 5012

The region is normally not written on domestic mail; it appears on the generated lines because most forms and databases ask for a region or state field. Postcodes are four digits and geographic: 0xxx covers Northland and north Auckland, 1xxx and 2xxx Auckland, 3xxx Waikato and Bay of Plenty, 4xxx the lower North Island east and west, 5xxx and 6xxx the Wellington region, 7xxx Nelson, Marlborough and upper Canterbury, 8xxx Christchurch, and 9xxx Otago and Southland. Unit numbers are written as unit/street number, so 2/14 is unit 2 at number 14. Rural addresses use an RD number (for example RD 3) in place of a suburb.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real New Zealand addresses?

No. The regions and street types are real, and about one town in five is a real place, but the street name, number and postcode are random. No line corresponds to an actual property.

Do the postcodes match the towns?

No. The postcode is four random digits chosen independently of the town and region. If you need a matching postcode, look up the town's real range: Auckland 1xxx–2xxx, Wellington 5xxx–6xxx, Christchurch 8xxx, Dunedin 9xxx.

Can I get only Auckland addresses?

There is no city filter. Generate a batch of 15 and keep the Auckland lines, or copy a line and replace the town and region yourself.

Why is the region in the address?

Real NZ mail doesn't need the region, but the tool is built for forms and test data, which usually have a region or state field. Drop it if you're writing an envelope.
