Sims 4 Name Generator

Enter a surname, choose a country and get up to ten first-and-last names for a whole Sim household in one press.

This Sims 4 name generator works the way you actually build a household in Create a Sim: you decide the family name first, then fill in the members. Type a surname, pick a country, choose how many Sims you need (1 to 10) and press the button. You get a list of full names, each a first name from that country paired with your surname, with a copy button on every card. Leave the surname as Smith and the United States selected and you get a generic suburban family for Willow Creek; switch to Japan and "Tanaka" and you have a household for Mt. Komorebi.

The options, and what they do

  • Family surname. Required, up to 50 characters. Every generated name uses it, so one press gives you a whole family that shares a last name. If you want the surname picked for you too, the Random Last Name Generator covers that.
  • Country. 38 choices, from Arabic and Australia through Japan, Mexico, Nepal, Poland, Vietnam and the United Kingdom. The first names come from the locale lists in the open-source faker library, so Germany gives you names like Cosima and Sinja, Japan gives kanji names like 結菜 and 陸斗, and Georgia gives names in Georgian script.
  • Gender. Random, male or female.
  • Number of names. 1 to 10 per press. A Sims 4 household caps at eight Sims, so ten gives you a couple of spares to choose from.

Names are generated fresh each time rather than pulled from a fixed list, so you will not exhaust the tool, and non-Latin scripts are kept as they are. The Sims 4 accepts Unicode in the name fields, so a Sim called 鸿涛 Wang or ניר Cohen works in the game.

Matching a country to a Sims 4 world

Most Sims 4 worlds are modeled on a real place, and picking the matching country makes a household feel native to its neighborhood. These are the pairings that work best with the countries in the dropdown.

Tomarang deserves a note, since a lot of people arrive here looking for a Tomarang name generator. The world is modeled on Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Thailand is not one of the available locales, so Vietnam is the closest match, and it produces two-part given names like Phước Huệ and Uyên My that suit the setting well. Pair them with a Vietnamese surname such as Nguyen, Tran or Le.

How to use the names in play

  • Legacy challenge founders. Pick the family name you will live with for ten generations, then generate a batch of first names in the same country so later heirs feel related.
  • Filling an empty world. When you bulldoze the premade townies, generating five or six households with country-matched names is faster than inventing them.
  • Rags-to-riches and storytelling saves. A blogger or YouTuber running a story save can name a whole cast in a minute and keep consistent origins for each family.
  • Occult households. Werewolf packs in Moonwood Mill often go by pack-style names; the Wolf Name Generator supplies those, while this tool names the human side of the family.
  • Themed saves. A Regency-era save in Henford-on-Bagley suits the Bridgerton Name Generator, and a wizarding household can borrow from the Harry Potter Name Generator.

For pop-star Sims in Del Sol Valley, the Random Kpop Idol Generator gives you real idols to base a celebrity on. Everything else is under all name generators.

Frequently asked questions

Does this generate a last name as well?

You supply the surname yourself so that the whole household shares it. The generator adds a first name from the chosen country in front of it. If you want a random surname to start from, use the Random Last Name Generator and paste the result into the surname box.

Is there a Tomarang name generator option?

Not as a named option, but Tomarang is modeled on Southeast Asia and the Vietnam locale gives the closest results. Thai is not available, so for a Thai-flavored family you will need to pick a surname by hand.

Where do the first names come from?

From the locale name lists in the faker library, an open-source test-data package. Each of the 38 countries has its own list, and names in non-Latin scripts (Arabic, Chinese, Georgian, Hebrew, Japanese) are returned in their native script.

How many Sims can I name at once?

Up to 10 per press. A Sims 4 household holds a maximum of eight Sims, so ten leaves you a couple of alternatives to discard.

Will these names work in The Sims 3 or The Sims 2?

Yes. The output is just plain text names, so nothing about them is tied to a particular Sims version. Older games are less reliable with non-Latin characters, so stick to Latin-alphabet countries for those.
