Random Australia Phone Number Generator
Get 1 to 10 made-up Australian phone numbers in +61 format, each with a copy button. For test data and mockups, not for calling.Enter a quantity from 1 to 10 and press the button; the Random Australia Phone Number Generator produces that many made-up numbers in the form +61-X-XXXX-XXXX, each on a card labeled "Australia" with a copy icon. The digits are random, which makes the results fine as placeholders in forms, spreadsheets and mockups and unsuitable as numbers to ring.
How the numbers are built
The template is +61-#-####-####: Australia's country code, then nine random digits grouped 1-4-4. That's the shape of an Australian landline written internationally (+61 2 9876 5432), so results read as landlines rather than mobiles. The single digit after +61 is random too, so most results don't land on a real area code, and the tool never checks whether a number is connected.
How real Australian phone numbers work
Australian numbers have ten digits domestically, starting with 0. Internationally the 0 is dropped and +61 added, leaving nine digits: 02 9876 5432 becomes +61 2 9876 5432, and 0412 345 678 becomes +61 412 345 678. The digit after the 0 tells you the type of number:
| Prefix | Type | Example (fictional) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 04 (and 05) | Mobile | +61 491 570 156 | Written 04xx xxx xxx. All Australian mobiles start with 04; 05 has been opened for future growth. |
| 02 | Landline: NSW and ACT | +61 2 5550 1234 | Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, Wollongong and regional NSW. |
| 03 | Landline: Victoria and Tasmania | +61 3 5550 1234 | Melbourne, Geelong, Hobart, Launceston. |
| 07 | Landline: Queensland | +61 7 5550 1234 | Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, Townsville. |
| 08 | Landline: SA, WA and NT | +61 8 5550 1234 | Adelaide, Perth, Darwin. |
| 13, 1300 | Local-rate business | 13 12 34 | Charged at local rate from anywhere in Australia; six or ten digits. |
| 1800 | Freephone | 1800 123 456 | Free from landlines and most mobiles. |
The ACMA, Australia's communications regulator, reserves numbers that will never be issued so that film, TV, adverts and training material can show a number safely. The landline blocks are (02) 5550 xxxx, (03) 5550 xxxx, (07) 5550 xxxx and (08) 5550 xxxx, and there are a handful of reserved mobile numbers in the 0491 570 and 0491 571 ranges (0491 570 156 is one). The examples in the table use those blocks. If you're publishing anything, use one of them rather than a random number.
That is the caveat for this tool. Only results whose first digit after +61 is 2, 3, 7 or 8 have the shape of a real landline, and any of those could in principle match a connected line. None of the results look like mobiles, since those would need a 4 followed by eight digits in 3-3-3 grouping. Don't call or text generated numbers, and don't use one to sign up for a service; keep them for test data and drafts.
Ways people use it
- Testing phone fields – confirming a form accepts +61 with hyphens and handles the nine-digit length.
- Mockups for an Australian audience – contact pages, invoices and CRM screenshots.
- Sample data – ten numbers for a demo spreadsheet or seed file.
- Placeholder text – a stand-in in a template until the real number is available; swap in a 5550 number before it goes live.

Frequently asked questions
- Are these real Australian phone numbers?
No. Each result is +61 followed by nine random digits. The tool does not check area codes or whether a number is connected, so results are placeholders only and some fall outside the real numbering plan.
- Does the generator make Australian mobile numbers?
Not in mobile format. Australian mobiles are 04xx xxx xxx (+61 4xx xxx xxx). This tool's output is grouped like a landline, +61 X XXXX XXXX, with a random first digit. If you need a mobile-shaped placeholder, use one of the ACMA reserved numbers such as 0491 570 156.
- Can I call or text these random Australian numbers?
You should not. Any result with a valid area code could match a real, connected number, and contacting strangers at random is a nuisance and may breach your provider's terms. For anything public, use the ACMA fictitious ranges.
- What are the safe fake Australian numbers for TV, ads and training?
The ACMA reserves (02) 5550 xxxx, (03) 5550 xxxx, (07) 5550 xxxx and (08) 5550 xxxx for landlines, plus specific mobile numbers in the 0491 570 and 0491 571 ranges. These are never issued to customers.
- How many numbers can I generate at once?
From 1 to 10 per press, each with its own copy button. Press again for a fresh batch.
