Random Japan Phone Number Generator

Get up to 10 fictional Japanese numbers in +81 format, each on a card with a copy button.

Enter a count from 1 to 10 and press the button. You get that many fictional Japanese phone numbers written as +81-XXX-XXX-XXXX, one per card, each with a copy icon. The Random Japan Phone Number Generator is a placeholder tool: it gives you a number that reads as Japanese for a form you are testing, a demo database, a design mockup or a story, without handing you anyone's real line.

What you can set

Only the number of results. There is no prefecture or carrier picker, and no toggle between mobile and landline. Every result is +81 followed by ten random digits split 3-3-4. Press Generate Phone Number again for a new batch; the old one is replaced, not saved.

What each result looks like

A card with the number in large text, "Japan" underneath, and a copy button that puts the number on your clipboard and briefly shows a checkmark. Ten cards fit in a grid on desktop and stack on a phone.

Ways people use it

  • QA on international phone inputs. A field that accepts +81 numbers needs a few samples to confirm it stores the country code and hyphens the way you expect.
  • Sample records for a Japan-facing product. A demo with Japanese customer names looks odd next to US-style numbers. Drop in ten of these.
  • Localized UI mockups. Order confirmation screens, delivery notifications and profile pages for a Japanese launch.
  • Writing. A number on a Tokyo business card in a novel or a script, where a real one would be a liability.

How Japanese phone numbers are structured

Japan's country code is +81. Domestic numbers begin with a 0 that is dropped internationally, so a Tokyo number written 03-1234-5678 becomes +81 3-1234-5678 and a mobile written 090-1234-5678 becomes +81 90-1234-5678. Domestic numbers are ten digits including the leading 0 (mobiles are eleven), which is why the international form has nine or ten digits after +81.

  • Mobile numbers start with 090, 080 or 070 and are written 3-4-4: 090-XXXX-XXXX. The 060 block has been reserved for future mobile use as the others fill up.
  • Landlines use a geographic area code: 03 Tokyo, 06 Osaka, 052 Nagoya, 011 Sapporo, 075 Kyoto, 092 Fukuoka. Short codes go with big cities and eight-digit local numbers; smaller areas have longer codes and shorter local parts.
  • Other ranges: 0120 and 0800 are toll-free, 050 is IP telephony, 020 is used for pagers and data-only devices.

The generator produces ten random digits after +81, grouped 3-3-4. That is the right length for a mobile number in international form, but the grouping differs from the 3-4-4 you see on Japanese business cards, and because the digits are random the first two will usually not be 90, 80 or 70. If you need a number that passes a strict Japanese mobile check, change the first two digits to 90 and regroup it as +81 90-XXXX-XXXX.

Sample numbers in the generator's format

Generated formWritten the Japanese way
+81-901-234-5678090-1234-5678
+81-803-456-7890080-3456-7890
+81-705-678-9012070-5678-9012
+81-312-345-678903-1234-5678 (Tokyo landline shape)
+81-612-345-678906-1234-5678 (Osaka landline shape)

None of the numbers are checked against a directory, and a random string could coincide with a line someone actually uses. Keep them inside test data and mockups and do not call or message them.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated numbers real Japanese phone numbers?

No. Each one is +81 plus ten random digits. They are not assigned to anyone on purpose, there is no SIM behind them, and they cannot receive calls or texts.

Can I use one to get an SMS verification code from a Japanese service?

No. The tool only prints text on a page. For a working Japanese number you would need a local SIM or a paid virtual-number provider.

Why are the numbers grouped 3-3-4 instead of 3-4-4?

The generator uses a fixed +81-XXX-XXX-XXXX pattern. Japanese mobiles are usually written 090-XXXX-XXXX. The digit count is the same, so you can regroup a result by hand if the layout matters for your mockup.

How many numbers can I generate at once?

From 1 to 10 per press, with no limit on how many times you press the button.

How do I convert a Japanese number to international format?

Remove the leading 0 and add +81. 090-1234-5678 becomes +81 90-1234-5678, and a Tokyo landline 03-1234-5678 becomes +81 3-1234-5678.
